Prairie Blazing Star - Liatris pycnostachya

Features: Tough, drought tolerant perennial with grass-like bottom leaves and crowded flower spikes that open from the top of the spike downward.

It is found in moist woodlands and prairies to dry, open woods and fields.

Liatris attracts birds, butterflies and bees and grows well with coneflowers, bee balms, goldenrods and grasses, which can help support it when tall. A great quintessential prairie plant.

Light: Full sun to partial shade

Soil: Moist, well-drained soil

Height: 2’ – 5’

Blooms: July - September
