American Hazelnut - Corylus americana

Also commonly called American Filbert. Related to the stuff that goes into that kid fave, Nutella! Article
The dense branching structure and large leaves of this shrub provide a nesting place for songbirds and protective cover for wildlife. Birds, chipmunks and squirrels dine on its nutritious nuts, also called American hazelnuts. Fall foliage is a beautiful orange red. It’s best to purchase 2 or 3 shrubs to ensure there are nuts leftover after the squirrels plunder them. May grow and spread from its roots.
