Also called Wild Columbine.

Features:  Illinois' only native Columbine, with its unique  red and yellow drooping flowers, is more colorful and desired by pollinators than non-native garden varieties. Works well in a woodland garden but will also grow in sunnier sites. It is an early bloomer and may self-seed and move around each year but does not take over or spread too much.

Hummingbirds migrating need this, and it is a larval host to Columbine Duskywing (Erynnis lucilius), a type of Borer Moth (Papaipema leucostigma) and the Columbine Sawfly (Pristophora aquilegae).

Light: Shade to partial sun

Soil: Moist to dry

Height: 1-3 feet

Blooms: April to June
